Öncü H Gültekin is a documentary photographer and filmmaker based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. His personal work takes an observational approach, looking at a space as a whole, where people, objects, color and light carry equal weight.
His current focus is how memory convinces us of what reality is. He is working on a documentary film, “Migrant Bodies,” about first-generation, working-class Turkish migrants in Rotterdam whose memories are being dissolved by dementia. Shot in a cinéma vérité style, the film observes how the space left by lost memories is filled by life itself.
He also takes on commercial commissions, bringing the same observational approach to them.
